Ingredients for Soft Cheddar and Jalapeño Bread:

  • 1 cup or 250ml of milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp of sugar
  • 2 tsp of instant yeast
  • 3¼ cups of all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • ¼ cup of powdered milk
  • 3 tbsp of melted butter, unsalted
  • 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese, cubed
  • ½ cup of jalapeños, sliced

Eggwash

  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp of milk

How to Make Soft Cheddar and Jalapeño Bread:

Step 1

Add the milk, egg, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl, then mix them until well combined, add the flour, salt, and powdered milk, and keep mixing until dough forms. Now, add the butter, and mix them until fully absorbed, then knead, slap, and fold the dough for about 5 minutes or until smooth.

Step 2

Add the sharp cheddar cheese cubes and jalapeño slices, then lift and fold the dough to incorporate, and smooth it into a ball before placing it in an oiled bowl. Cover the bowl, then set it aside, and let the dough rise for about 40 to 60 minutes or until double in size.

Step 3

After an hour, punch the dough to degas, then flatten and roll it tightly into a log, and pinch the edges to seal. Braid the dough, then place it in a 9×5-inch baking dish greased with butter or nonstick cooking spray, and cover it for about 25 minutes or until double in size.

Step 4

Next, preheat your oven to 340°F for about 15 minutes before baking, then brush the bread with eggwash, and place it in the oven to bake for about 30 minutes or until light golden brown. Brush the top with melted butter, then serve, and enjoy!
