We all have that favorite t-shirt—the one that’s been worn and loved so much that it fits like a second skin. Unfortunately, with time and wear, even the best-loved t-shirts can suffer from a stretched neckline, turning a once-perfect fit into a sloppy look. If you’ve faced this common wardrobe woe, you might think the only solution is to retire your beloved tee or resort to sewing. But fear not! This tutorial from Miarti – Sewing Tips on YouTube will teach you how to return your t-shirt to its original glory without any sewing.

A stretched neckline often results from repeated tugging and pulling when taking the shirt on and off, laundering processes, or even the natural elasticity of the fabric giving way over time. This can leave the neckline looking loose, droopy, and less flattering. However, before you consider donating or discarding your t-shirt, know that you can easily remedy this with a clever technique that requires no needle or thread. Learn how by watching the video tutorial below for the step by step instructions.

Materials:

  • seam ripper
  • thin elastic
  • scissors
  • needle

Directions:

Step 1

To start, rip the vertical seam on the back part of the collar using a seam ripper, then thread a large needle with a thin elastic. Insert the needle through the hole, bottom part first, then go through around the stretched collar.

Step 2

Once you get to the other end, fix the collar, and then tie both ends of the elastic to secure. Cut the excess elastic afterwards. If you want a seamless project, you can sew the seam closed on the back part of the collar to return it to its original form (optional).
