It will ensure that the sugar and salt do not separate from the vinegar. Be sure not to skip that step.

Thoroughly wash the skin of the cucumbers. Slice the cucumbers or cut them into spears. Transfer them into an airtight container or in a mason jar.
Place a saucepan over medium heat and pour 1 1/2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of whole black peppercorns, and 3 whole cloves of garlic. Bring it to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, remove from heat.
Pour the liquid mixture directly into the jars or containers with the cucumbers. Make sure the peppercorns and garlic are in the jar as well. Place the lid and let it cool at room temperature for about an hour.
After an hour, add 3 to 4 sprigs of dill and press them down. Lastly, add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes. Place the lid back. Refrigerate overnight.
