Materials:

  • 1/2 yard fabric in julep color
  • 3/4 yard fabric in blue color
  • 3/4 yard fabric in white color
  • 2 pack of 2 1/2″ white and squares

Directions:

Step 1

Take four 2 1/2″ squares and two 1 1/2″ blue squares. Snowball the 1 1/2″ blue squares on opposite corners of the 2 1/2″ white square. Sew the blue squares point to point diagonally, repeating these four times. After this, trim off the excess corners on each little block. Press them open afterward, then put the blocks together, creating the “X”. Sew them like a four-patch, then press.

Step 2

Moving on with the bar block, cut some 1 1/2″ x 4″ and 1/2″ rectangles from the white background fabric. Then, cut 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles from the blue fabric. Sew one of the white rectangles on either side of the blue rectangle, then press nicely. Lastly, grab the julep squares and cut them down into 4 1/2″.

Step 3

Start laying out the block pieces. Lay one X block followed by the bar block, then another X block. For the next row, lay the bar block first but rotate it horizontally, then lay one julep square, and another bar block. Continue in this exact same pattern to make the quilt top. (The quilt top should be nine blocks across by nine down.)
