Have you ever tried adding Coke to your chicken wings? It might sound weird, but it actually tastes really good! I was so surprised when I first made this easy coke chicken wings by Cook With Mikey at home. I thought it would be too sweet and tastes like chicken coated with Cola, but it was not. The sweetness is not overpowering at all. It has the perfect balance of salty and sweet flavors because of the soy sauce.

Aside from the Coke, he used beer to tenderize the meat, then added it to the pan to add depth to the flavor. Don’t worry about the alcohol, as it will cook off. Once you add the Coke and let it simmer, it will caramelize and turn into a thick sauce that will coat the chicken wings. It’s absolutely delicious – make sure to give it a try. Cut the sides of the chicken a little bit. Place them in a large pot and pour 1 can of beer. Mix well and let it marinate for about an hour. This will add depth to the flavor and will also tenderize the meat. If you don’t have beer, you can also use cooking wine.
Place a pan over medium heat and drizzle a little oil. Add the white parts of the scallions and the ginger. Stir for about 30 seconds.
Add the marinated chicken to the pan. Cook each side for a couple of minutes until nice and brown on all sides. Add 1/2 cup of the beer and cook over medium heat until the alcohol cook down.
Add 1 tablespoon of light soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of dark soy sauce. Let it cook for a minute.
Add 12 oz of the coke and let it simmer until the coke cooks down over high heat. Make sure to flip the chicken. You want the coke to caramelize until there is no more sauce left. Be sure to flip it several times.
Garnish with the green part of the scallions and sprinkle sesame seeds. Serve and enjoy!
