There are tons of spritz butter cookie recipes out there, but I can assure you that Tatyana’s Everyday Food‘s version is surely one of the best. It is a bit unique as it uses mayonnaise. Trust me – it makes the cookies even better! They melt in your mouth and have this rich, buttery taste that you will love. You might also think that they look just like butter cookies, but they are a little bit different as the recipe contains eggs. Adding this one ingredient makes the batter easier to work with and helps them to hold their shapes.

To make these old-fashioned spritz butter cookies, you only need 7 ingredients – butter, sugar, vanilla extract, egg, mayonnaise, all-purpose flour, and baking powder. They are good as is, but adding sprinkles, chocolate, or nuts will make them more delicious. Traditionally, they are made using a cookie press, but a piping bag works well too!

Start by lining two large baking sheet with parchment paper then preheat your oven to 325F.
In a large mixing bowl, add softened butter and sugar. Beat together for a few minutes until extra light and fluffy.
Add the vanilla extract, egg, and mayonnaise. Beat for another minute.
Stir in the baking powder into the flour, then add the mixture to the batter. Mix until a batter forms. If you want to make green or red cookies, add concentrated gel food coloring and mix well.
Transfer the mixture to a pastry bag tipped with a star tip. You can use star tip #4 and Ateco tip #847. Pipe different designs and shapes on the baking sheet. You can sprinkle some decorative sprinkles or dices nuts too.
Bake the cookies at 325F until lightly golden around the edges for about 14 minutes for small cookies and up to 18 minutes for larger ones.
Once done baking, let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. You can garnish them with melted chocolate.
