Firecracker Quilt Block Pattern Tutorial

Materials:

• two bundles of jelly rolls
• background fabric
• 30-degree triangle ruler
• 6 & 1/2″ square ruler

Directions:

Step 1

Take five jelly roll strips, sew them together, and press them open. Grab your 30-degree triangle ruler and cut ten firecracker wedges. Take your ruler and only pay attention to the tip, don’t line up anything on the bottom, then make your first cut. Once you have ten pieces, make your background wedges. Start with an 8″ with the fabric strip of your background fabric, and do the same technique you just did by aligning the tip at the top. Make 16 pieces of background wedges. After this, start assembling your firecracker unit. Put two of the background wedges with one firecracker wedge between them. Sew these together. (Make sure to align the tip first, securing it with pins, then sew).

Step 2

Once sewn, press it open, then trim your unit to a 6 & 1/2″ square. Make a crease in the center first by folding the unit in half, then use your 6 & 1/2″ square ruler to trim it. Make a bunch of these units as needed for your quilt. Next, lay four units with the points in the center, then sew them together. Repeat this step to make more blocks. Now, put two blocks, right sides together, and pin in every intersection. After this, sew them together. Assemble five blocks together, press, make six rows, sew them together, and press.
