Materials:

For each confetti block:

  • 1 pc. background (white) 2 &  1/2″ square
  • 1 pc. print or solid color 2 & 1/2″ square
  • 1 pc. background (white) 2 & 1/2″ x 4 & 1/2″ rectangle

Directions:

Step 1

First, cut a bunch of 2 & 1/2″ solid color squares and 2 & 1/2″ background or white squares. Sew these two together to create a two-patch of 2 & 1/2″ squares. Take all the two patches that you created, put them to the side, and press them whenever you’re ready. Once you have completed as many of the two patches as you’d like to for your own quilt, go ahead and cut some rectangles of the background fabric that are 2 & 1/2″ x 4 & 1/2″. You’re going to need the same amount of these as you have of the two patches. (In this case, there are 154 pieces.)

Step 2

Next, lay these right sides together, sew along at the long seam of your rectangle, and use those in between your piecing. You’ll just keep doing those in between blocks and rows of chain piecing until you have all those finished. Once those are finished, you’ll end up with a 4 & 1/2″ unfinished square. This will be your completed block for the confetti quilt. Now, rotate the directions of your blocks in between each block and each row to give it the confetti illusion. (You could also set these in the same directions to have a more arranged confetti look.) Laid them out in a pattern of 11 blocks per row for 14 rows. Finish it off with a 2 & 1/2″ wide border of the background fabric. The finished quilt will measure 48 x 60. (You can create as many of these blocks as you’d like to make as big a quilt as you want.)
