Materials:

  • 10 pcs. 8 x 8 x 16″ cinder blocks
  • 5 pcs. 1 x 8″ boards (6′ long)
  • primer
  • paint (color of your choice)
  • wood stain (shade of your choice)
  • 10 pcs. flower pots and plants
  • paintbrush

Directions:

Step 1

First, prime the cinder blocks with two coats, then paint them with two coats of paint. Next, stain the woods with the shade of your choice. Wait for the stain to dry. After this, place one of the woods on the bottom where you intend to assemble the shelf. Place cinder block on either end of the board, making it flush with the front and ends.

Step 2

The first shelf will be the tallest one that can fit large books or records. To make this, stagger two cinder blocks on the outer edges of the first blocks, just over the halfway mark so they won’t tip over when you let go. Then, place a board on top, keeping the outer holes of the cinder block exposed. Next, place two cinder blocks on the inside and a board on top of them. To make a slightly taller shelf for books that are slightly taller than the cinder blocks, make boosters by cutting two 8 x 8″ pieces of the fifth board. Place the boosters on the inner halves of the top two blocks, then put a board on top, and finally place the last two cinder blocks. Next, add a central spine for support. Use the remainder of the fifth board for the pieces. Use a tape to determine the center, then slid in the pieces. After this, you can finally add the plants to the holes and then arrange the books.
