Bread is perfect any time of day and is versatile with any dish combined. Take it with coffee in the morning or with ice cream at midnight. Savor Easy shares a simple but richly flavored, fluffy milk bread recipe that is very easy to make at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk (250ml)
  • 1 large egg (room temp)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (50g)
  • 2 tsp instant yeast (6g)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (400g) or bread flour in the same amount
  • 3 tbsp milk powder (30g)
  • 1/3 cup softened butter (75g) Unsalted
  • 1 tsp salt (5g) half the salt if using salted butter

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).

In a large mixing bowl, mix 1 cup of warm milk, 1 large egg, ¼ cup sugar, and 2 tbsp instant yeast until well combined. Add 2 and ¼ cups of all-purpose flour and 3 tablespoons of milk powder. Mix well until the dough forms.  Cover the bowl for 20 minutes to let the gluten develop using a cloth.

After that, add 1/3 cup of butter and 1 tsp of salt. Use your hands to mix until the dough is incorporated.  Transfer the dough to a lightly floured counter and knead. Slap and fold the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Smooth the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl. Using a cloth, cover the bowl for 45 minutes.

When done, the dough has expanded, and it’s time to remove the gas by punching down the dough. Transfer it to the counter and divide it into 9 equal pieces. Wrap each piece in a cloth and set them aside for 10 minutes. With each piece, roll it out gently using a rolling pin. Roll the pieces into a log shape and pinch the edges to seal.

Grease an 8-inch x 12-inch baking dish and place each log of dough in it. Cover the dish with a cloth for 30 mins.

Combine 1 egg and 2 tbsp of milk to make the egg wash. Brush and cover the log dough with the egg wash.

Bake in the oven at 180°C (350° F) for about 25 minutes or until the top turns golden brown.

Lastly, brush the top of the milk bread with melted butter. Enjoy!
