Jenny Doan loves making star quilt patterns, and if you look at their collections you will see a ton of designs available. This 60-degree stars quilt by Missouri Star is a bit different from all the designs I have seen before. It is fun, playful, and modern. It easily catches everyone’s attention, especially with its bright-colored fabrics.

One thing I love about this design is the hexagon shape of the block. Unlike square blocks that are arranged horizontally, these blocks are sewn vertically. It might look like it’s not beginner-friendly, but trust me, it is easy to make. The steps are clear and easy to understand; you won’t have trouble finishing this project.

Make sure to add this unique pattern to your star quilt collections.

Easy 60 Degrees Stars Quilt Materials

  • 4 3/4 yards of background fabric
  • 5 1/4 yards of backing fabric
  • 1 1/2 yards for the outer border
  • 1 roll of 2 1/2″ print strips
  • MSQC 60-degree ruler

How to Make 60 Degrees Stars Quilt

Step 1:

Take 2 pieces of 2 1/2″ strips and set them apart. Add a 1 1/2″ background strip in the middle. Sew them together to make a 3-unit strip. Next, sew a 5 1/2″ background strip on the top of the unit.

Step 2:

Cut the unit into four pieces of 10″ squares. Set one aside.

Step 3:

Take one of the squares and place it on your work surface so that the white is facing right. Take the MSQC ruler and line up the center line with the seam line and the bottom edge, right on the 5 1/2″. Cut the triangle. Take the remaining fabric and fold it in half. Take it to the sewing machine and sew it together. Press it flat. Place the ruler on top and cut the next triangle. Repeat the process with the remaining squares.

Step 4:

Arrange 6 pieces of triangles and arrange them together just like in the photo below. Make sure they are opposites. Sew them all together.

When you sew your quilt together, you are going to start and end each row with a background 60-degree triangle.
