#1 Chugging Water Like There’s No Tomorrow

When you chug water down in a speedy manner, it fills you up really fast, causing you to pee. This means your body doesn’t have time to store the water to break down food and absorb nutrients, helping to fuel different organs and systems you need to function. It also dilutes your saliva, an important element in digestion. Sipping 2 to 3 oz of water at a time throughout your day should do the trick.

#2 Drinking Water Immediately After A Big Meal

When your body starts to digest food, gastric juices work hard to break down the foods so your body can absorb the necessary vitamins and nutrients. If you drink water while this is all happening, you can dilute the gastric juices and cause insulin levels to rise. This disruption in your digestion can make you feel bloated and gassy and can cause indigestion. Chugging down water right before you eat can also have the same negative effect. If you like to drink water while eating, just do it slowly and in small sips. Now, the right way to do it is to wait an hour or 2 after eating before you drink down a glass of water and 40 minutes prior to a meal.

#3 Drinking Ice-Cold Water

Drinking ice-cold water can shrink your blood vessels and disrupt the digestion process. It can also cause you to hold on to unwanted fat since cold temperatures solidify fat in the food you eat. Drinking cold water can also cause sore throat, joint pain, and a slower heart rate. To avoid any of these problems, it may be a good idea to switch to room-temperature water.

#4 Drinking Water On-The-Go

If you’re standing or walking around while you drink, you may likely do it faster, which is bad for your body and can put a strain on your kidneys. Drinking water while standing is also bad since in this position your muscles and nervous system aren’t as relaxed as they are when you are sitting down. This can cause a kink in the digestion process. Try to give yourself a little time to sit down and drink water even though it may be challenging at times.

#5 Drinking Water At The End Of Your Morning Routine

By not drinking water first thing in the morning, you are depriving yourself of health benefits. When you wake up in the morning, your mouth is full of saliva. This saliva aids in the digestion process and helps things move along. Ingesting this saliva ensures healthy digestion throughout your day. Keep a glass of water beside your bed so you can take a few sips of it after just waking up. Just remember not to chug it.

#6 Skipping A Glass Of Water Before Bed

Skipping a glass of water before bed can potentially increase your chances of getting a heart attack. According to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology in 2002, water and other fluids can aid in the prevention of fatal coronary heart disease. Drinking water at night or just before bed can improve circulation during the night.
