In a mixing bowl, sift 1 and 3/4 cups of cake flour and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder to remove lumps. Sift it 2 more times. This will bring a lot of air into the batter. Set it aside.
In another bowl, add 1 cup of unsalted butter and whisk until the butter is soft. Next, add 1 cup of sugar and whisk on a low-speed setting for about 2 minutes. After that, scrape the sides and continue beating for about 15 minutes. Scrape the sides again and increase the speed. Beat for another 15 minutes.
Continue beating while adding the 5 eggs one at a time. Next, add the vanilla extract and beat until just combined.
Scoop half of the dry ingredients one at a time while continuously whisking. After you add half of the dry ingredients, scrape the sides. Add 1/4 cup of milk and start beating again followed by the dry ingredients – one scoop at a time. Once it becomes thick, scrape the sides again, then add the remaining milk and dry ingredients.
Scrape the sides and the bottom of the bowl. Transfer into a greased square pan lined with parchment paper on the bottom. Level it with a spatula.
Place in a preheated oven at 320 degrees F and bake for about 55 to 65 minutes. Make sure to check it after 45 minutes if the cake is already done baking.
Let it cool on a rack, then remove it from the tray and slice. Enjoy!
