Method 1: Making a string drip system

Get a cotton string or cloth and place it into the bottom of the soil of your plant, then place the opposite end of the string into the bottom of a large jar or container filled with water. If the string floats, you should tie it to an object like a rock to make sure it remains at the bottom. Capillary action will take place and ensure that the water travels from the jar via the string to the plant. Make sure that the mouth of the jar or container is above the base of the plant. You can also cove the jar to keep the water from evaporating. Do not put the plants in direct sunlight.

Method 2: Water bottle drop system

First, water the soil. If you put the water bottle into dry soil, all of the water will be absorbed immediately. Taka a 1-2 liters water bottle, then pierce 3-4 small holes on the sides and more on the bottom. Burry it in the soil surrounding your plants. Make enough holes on the bottom as the water will sit and algae can grow if not sufficient. Place it on the soil with the neck of the bottle exposed just above the soil. Point the holes in the direction of the plant. Just before you leave, fill the bottle to the top with water.

Method 3: Making a watering bottle

You will be using an empty wine bottle with a screw top for this method. Pierce several holes on the top of the cork using a fork or screwdriver, then fill the bottle with water and replace the lid. Place the bottle upside down in the soil around your plants. Make sure it is sturdy and secure, so it won’t fall. Damp the soil before you travel. This method works for pot and garden plants.
