This 4 ingredient vanilla sponge cake by Siblings Food Hunter is light, yummy, and super fluffy! It’s one of the easiest cake recipes you can make at home – perfect for beginners. Ingredients:

  • 4 whole eggs
  • 3/8 cup of sugar
  • 5/8 cup of cake flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for flavor (optional, you can choose any flavor you want)

Note: If you want a chocolate sponge cake, use 1/2 cup of cake flour and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder

The cake mold used in this recipe measures 6 inches.

Instructions:

Step 1:

Preheat the oven to 320 degrees F.

Step 2:

In a bowl, crack 4 eggs and the 3/8 cup of white sugar. Beat the mixture using a hand mixer or stand mixer until it becomes foamy and light. You can use a whisk but it will take a lot of time before you get the right consistency.

Step 3:

Add the vanilla extract into the mixture and mix again.

Step 4:

Sift the 5/8 cup of cake flour or all-purpose flour into the egg mixture to break up the clumps. Once done, gently mix the flour into the mixture using a whisk until well combined. Then use a spatula to fold the mixture.

Step 5:

Line the bottom of the 6-inch pan with parchment paper and pour the mixture. Remove the bubble from the batter by using a stick or toothpick and mixing it around. Or you can also thump it on the table twice to remove the air.

Step 6:

Place inside the preheated oven and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown on top.

Step 7:

Once done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool completely. Once cooled, use a knife or an offset spatula to remove the cake from the pan. Transfer to a plate and remove the parchment paper.
