When you hammer a nail on a slender wood, it tends to crack. There’s an easy trick that a lot of people do not know. To avoid this from happening, what you need to do is get the nail and hold it upside down. Place it on a flat surface or wood, then flatten the tip with a hammer until it is no longer pointy. With the dull tip, the nail crushes wood fibers instead of splitting them outward. This definitely lessens the chances of getting a split wood. You can also use a file to flatten the tip.
Sometimes when you drill a screw into a piece of wood, it does not go down smoothly. What you need to do is get a bar soap and scratch the bottom part of the screw until it’s covered. This will help to make the drilling process easier and smoother. You can also use candle wax or tool oil.
If you want to make a hole bigger but don’t have a larger drill bit, do not worry. You can use sandpaper! Just roll it and insert it into your driller. Drill the usual way to make the hole bigger. You can use a wire brush to clean the sandpaper.
