Orange peel is one of the most useful scraps you have around your kitchen. Instead of throwing your orange peels away, the many things they can be used for will blow your mind. When I found this orange peel video tutorial by Joy Home Remedies on YouTube, I vowed to never throw another orange peel away. This great video explains so many uses for orange peels, such as bug repellant, cat repellant, disposal freshening, non-toxic air freshening, face masks, body scrub, kitchen degreaser, bathroom cleaner, scented candles, and so much more! The peel of an orange contains a compound called D-Limonene that is worth its weight in gold, it even does an excellent job of renewing furniture!
One of my favorite projects in this video is the orange peel bird feeder. You just scoop out the contents of an orange and poke a hole in each side with a nail. Then you lace some twine through the holes and fill it with birdseed. You can hang the lightweight bird feeder anywhere, like on a small branch. This bird feeder is so small and light it will fit anywhere and is completely biodegradable.
You can also use orange peel for an excellent cleaner and degreaser by fermenting the peels in vinegar. The D-Limonene in the peels has tremendous cleaning power and the live enzymes you create also break down caked-on dirt, sink sum, and stovetop messes.
I just love orange peel and these ideas are going to become part of my daily routine.
